REMINDER > New hours for school and playground zones in effect for Calgary

Calgary school zones and playground zones now have standardized hours, improving safety and clarity for both drivers and pedestrians.

On 22 July  2014, Calgary City Council approved timing changes in school zones and playground zones.

School zones will be in effect from
7:30 am to 9 pm on school days.

Playground zones will be in effect from
7:30 am to 9 pm every day, year-round.

During these hours the speed limit is reduced to 30 km/h.

The change affects more than 180 school zones and 1,500 playground zones. Calgary Police will begin enforcing the new times on 01 September 2014.

The Calgary Board of Education and other area school boards will now work with the City of Calgary to identify opportunities to transition some elementary schools from school zones to playground zones.
